Have you ever dropped something—a glass bowl, maybe—and just stood there, heart sinking, watching it shatter? And in the moments after, you replay what you could’ve done differently. “If I just would’ve picked that up a different way…” “If I had made a second trip…”

We do the same thing with our mistakes. We try to piece together the past, reassemble what went wrong, or beat ourselves up over how we should’ve handled things differently. But while we’re stuck in yesterday, God is offering us peace today.

“How many of us live our lives trying to piece together yesterday’s mistakes... when God is offering us PEACE TODAY?”

The Prayer That Holds the Answer: His Peace Will Pick Up The Pieces

In Luke 11:1–4, the disciples ask Jesus a simple but powerful question:“Lord, teach us to pray.”And what Jesus gives them is more than just a script—it’s a framework for how to live in peace.

“Father, may your name be kept holy.May your Kingdom come soon.Give us each day the food we need, and forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.And don’t let us yield to temptation.” (Luke 11:2–4 NLT)

At the heart of this prayer? Dependence. Forgiveness. Daily provision. A holy perspective.

When the Bowl Breaks

Back to that broken bowl—here’s the truth: you can’t rewind and un-drop it. But you can let God meet you in the cleanup. His peace doesn’t demand perfection. It meets us in our imperfection.

Sometimes we find ourselves trying to glue together a version of life God never intended us to live. But what if the brokenness was part of the plan? What if it wasn’t your failure, but His redirection?

We keep asking God to bless our picture of peace—something polished, shiny, without cracks. But Jesus offers us something far better: Peace in the midst of imperfection.

“Peace is not what you hold. But who holds you.”

Identity Shift

Mistakes are what we make. But a child is what Jesus made you.In Luke 11:2, Jesus tells us to begin our prayers like this:

“Father, may your name be kept holy.”

That word—Father—is everything. It reminds us of who we’re talking to, and who we are.

We get caught up in the little details, constantly comparing ourselves to others. There’s always someone who seems more talented, more put together, more spiritually stable. But while we’re zoomed in on our faults, God sees the whole picture.

Just like a mosaic, the beauty comes not from perfection—but from the way the broken pieces come together.

Maybe the reason you’re stuck comparing yourself to others is because you haven’t let go of your own mistakes. Stop keeping a record of wrongs—especially your own.

The Bitterness We Hold

Jesus taught us to pray, “forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.”He didn’t make it complicated:

You want forgiveness? Forgive. You want another shot? Give someone else one.You want mercy? Be merciful. You want grace? Show grace. You want love? Start loving.

Peace begins when we stop holding onto bitterness. Not because the people around us deserve it—but because we’ve been forgiven, and we’re called to reflect that same mercy.

One Day at a Time

God’s provision is daily. Not all at once. You can’t store it up, hoard it, or use it to avoid needing Him tomorrow.

Jesus didn’t teach us to pray, “Give us bread.”He said, “Give us each day our daily bread.”

That kind of peace—the one that says “I’ll feel better if…”—is conditional.

If I get the job. If the test comes back negative. If the bills get paid.

But God's peace isn’t conditional. It’s constant.

When You Feel Anxious

Maybe you've lost a job, a relationship, your sense of security. And your mind is racing ahead: How will this work out? What if I run out? What if nothing changes?

But Jesus didn’t teach us to pray for next week’s breakthrough. He taught us to say:

“Give us this day our daily bread.”
“Give us today Your peace.”

Jesus, Our Daily Bread

Every word of the prayer Jesus taught is fulfilled through Him.He is our daily bread. He is our forgiveness. He is our peace.

When we take communion, we remember this. Not just the sacrifice—but the ongoing, daily invitation to live dependent on Him.

So let go of the pieces. Stop trying to put the glass bowl back together. And let the One who holds you bring the peace you’ve been trying to hold on your own.

“Peace is not what you hold. But who holds you.”
